Welcome to The Northern Territory School of Distance Education

We are a senior secondary distance education school that provides pathways for students in their final years of schooling to enable them to transition into further education at university or TAFE and/or full time employment, often through a school based apprenticeship. 

We deliver Year 10, Stage 1 (Year 11) and Stage 2 (Year 12) NT Board of Studies approved subjects which lead students to gaining their NT Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET).

Many of our students are isolated due to geographic, medical or social circumstances and many are dual enrolled at another school in the NT or live in another state or country. Some are travelling around Australia, the world or are living within a much shorter radius. Some students are adults wishing to access formal learning for career or personal reasons. Regardless of who and where you are we will endeavour to meet your needs.

Because of the diversity of our students and where they live, our delivery methods of teaching and learning are varied as much as possible and are tailored to match students' needs. Our blend of teaching methodology and pedagogy includes the use of leading edge technology such as Interactive Distance Learning (IDL) via internet and satellite for video conference lessons. 

Our Moodle Learning Management system provides students with all their subject materials and teachers also utilise some more traditional methods of teaching that include telephone, emails, and printed textbooks. Eligible students may be visited by teachers and may also have opportunities to attend intensive Residential Schools and workshops in Darwin throughout the year.

We aim to help students achieve their educational goals and at the same time develop, at their own pace, a clear sense of themselves and their future, by providing pathways through The Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training to further education, training and employment.
