Astrophysicist visits NTSDE

We were very fortunate (thanks to our former Science Senior, Paul Anderson) to have Professor Lisa Harvey-Smith visit our building on Monday 25 March 2019. Lisa is an astrophysicist with CSIRO, author of book ‘When Galaxies Collide’ and was named in late 2018, as Australia’s first Women in STEM Ambassador. You can read more about her here: https://lisaharveysmith.com/biography

She was in Darwin to launch the exhibit ‘Between the Moon and Stars’ at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the first lunar landing by NASA’s Apollo 11.

We were very fortunate to have her visit us. She attended a morning tea with staff and then attended an IDL lesson with students from all year levels. Lisa engaged the students with discussions about the universe, satellites, super computers and what types of careers are available in the science and STEM fields.

Thank you Lisa for visiting NTSDE!
