The NT School of Distance Education Annex is now up and running at KHS.
Our IT is functional and the refurbished distance learning space is a busy place, with many students now fully engaged in their timetabled NTSDE classes in the annex, or in the wonderful new KHS library where we have a dedicated studio space for scheduled interactive lessons.
Students doing online learning in the Distance Learning Annex are taught to use a range of learning and communication tools to stay connected with their teachers and classes, helping them to progress as independent learners and to develop online learning strategies and skills.
Currently 35 students at KHS are studying NTSDE senior secondary direct delivery subjects.
Subjects running in Semester 1 at KHS are:
- Stage 1 Chemistry
- Stage 1 Modern History
- Stage 2 Chemistry
- Stage 2 Essential English
- Stage 2 General Mathematics
- Stage 2 Music
- Stage 2 Scientific Studies
- Stage 1 Essential English
- Stage 1 Essential Numeracy
NTSDE is working in partnership with KHS in a variety of ways this year.
We are providing some “packaged” literacy and numeracy programs for students involved in school-based apprenticeships and VET courses, who sometimes need more flexibility in the way they access their learning, and we are co-teaching Stage 2 Scientific Studies to support curriculum and assessment.
This semester we are also expanding our delivery of the HEAL program in partnership with KHS teachers, which aims to support literacy and numeracy development and the transition into NTCET pathways for EAL/D learners.
It is exciting to be a part of establishing our learning programs in partnership with Katherine High, and we hope to continue creating more options for KHS students in their educational pathways as we progress through the year.
